Its no secret that I'm a die hard Jamie Oliver fan. It's also no secret that I'm appalled by the food that my son's school dishes out to unsuspecting children, calling it healthy, which is why my son is not ALLOWED to buy lunch at school...EVER.
Sadly, there are millions of children who eat both breakfast AND lunch at school because their parents work early and may not have time to feed them before they leave.
Even MORE tragic is that for millions of others, that ONE lunch and possibly breakfast at school may be the only meals they eat for the day due to economic hardships.
Shouldn't the food be healthy???
Did anyone else watch this last night?
In ONE year, this is the amount of sugar that the L.A. Unified School District feeds it's children JUST in the form of flavored milk...enough to overflow a school bus.
Season 2 | Episode 1 | Aired 04/12/2011
Jamie brings his message to Los Angeles but faces difficulties when the school district locks him out of the lunch program. Please, Please watch this and get informed. We're killing our children
(and ourselves, for that matter)
by not getting involved and not paying attention to WHAT is in our food as well as HOW it is manufactured.
If you love your kids, you'll tune in to at least ONE episode and I DARE you not to walk away infuriated and disgusted.
It's a revolution, after all.

Hi Renee,
ReplyDeleteit's insane what's inside food in the US. I don't understand why people let this happen?! I don't understand why people don't read the labels and just assume it's all safe... I also don't understand that there are no laws protecting children... And I don't understand why people don't use common sense and eat plain good food that has NO label.
Love your passion for one of the most important topics in our lives.
Your blog needs a tweet button! :-)

Nee,
ReplyDeleteYour post is dead-on right. I *heart* Jamie Oliver in all of his endeavors (love his new travel show as well, with clean, honest cooking). I did see part of the episode with the 'sugar bus', and, frankly, was taken aback. Scary stuff, indeed. People need to pay attention!
